Age 5

Kindergarten

Kindergarten is one of the most important years in a child’s educational journey because it sets the tone for their attitude toward learning and molds their confidence.

At VCA, our classrooms are filled with joy, curiosity, and discovery as students begin developing the skills that will shape their future success.

Inside the Kindergarten Program

Reading and writing

Reading and writing are at the heart of the kindergarten experience. We believe children first learn to read so that they can spend the rest of their lives reading to learn. Through a structured, research-based literacy program grounded in the Science of Reading, students develop phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and early writing skills. As they grow in confidence as readers and writers, they also discover the excitement of exploring God’s world through books, stories, and meaningful communication.

Mathematics

Our mathematics program develops a deep understanding of foundational concepts through hands-on exploration, problem-solving, and mathematical thinking. Students build number sense, learn to add and subtract, identify patterns, explore measurement and geometry, and begin explaining their mathematical reasoning. Rather than simply memorizing procedures, they develop the confidence to think critically and solve problems with creativity.

Science and social studies

Science and social studies invite students to explore the incredible world God has created and the communities in which He has placed us. Through observation, investigation, and engaging projects, students learn about plants and animals, weather and seasons, the physical world, and the practices of scientific discovery. They also begin to understand citizenship, community, history, geography, and the importance of caring for others as they discover how they can positively impact the world around them as part of our mission to live and love and Jesus did.

Above all, kindergarten at VCA is a place where children are known, loved, and encouraged every day. Our teachers build meaningful relationships with each student, creating a classroom where children feel safe and deeply cared for. As they experience the love of Christ through the care and example of their teachers, students begin to understand that they are uniquely created, deeply loved by God, and called to love and serve others.
