Middle School

A Private Christian Middle School in San Jose That Balances Academic Excellence and Student Well-Being

Living in Silicon Valley, you likely feel caught between two extremes. You want strong middle school academics that prepare your child for competitive high schools and future opportunities, but you also don’t want your student to lose the joy of learning or be pressured to perform at the expense of their well-being.

Venture Christian Academy was built to offer something different. Here, students can:

  • Take advanced math in middle school
  • Choose interactive STEM-based courses that align with high school engineering tracks
  • Hone presentation and logical reasoning skills through speech meets and international math competitions
  • Practice the writing and presentation skills needed for honors and AP-level work later on
  • Develop leadership skills critical to their future academic and vocational success

But just as importantly, they learn in an environment where teachers know when a student needs extra support, classmates welcome new students without hesitation, and mentorship groups create space for conversations about faith, friendships, and the deeper questions of life.

Let us show you how we help students pursue academic excellence with balance — all while being grounded in biblical truth.

A Middle School Culture Built on Kindness, Mentorship, and Respect

Middle school can be a difficult social season. Many parents worry about bullying, peer pressure, unhealthy competition, or their child simply getting lost in the crowd. But at Venture Christian Academy, students are taught to approach one another with patience, kindness, gentleness, and respect. Those values are reinforced in classrooms, mentorship groups, chapel, athletics, and everyday interactions between students and teachers.

That culture becomes visible in small moments that leave a lasting impression. When new students visit campus, student ambassadors introduce themselves first and help new students feel included. During a study trip to Washington, D.C., hotel staff and tour guides repeatedly commented on how gracious and attentive VCA students were throughout the week. Students arrived to volunteer as buddies at an all-abilities field day and helped finish setting up.

Teachers also invest deeply in relationships with students outside the classroom. Faculty members lead small mentorship groups where students talk openly as they grow through middle school together. Teachers often attend games, write personal notes to students, eat lunch with them, and create opportunities for connection that extend far beyond academics.

One critical aspect is often overlooked when deciding where to send your kids to school, and that’s community. VCA has played an integral part in our family’s life and we have made lifelong friends. Families, faculty and staff have come alongside us, prayed with us and for us, celebrated our wins and supported us in our hardships. VCA is more than just a community for us; it’s a family.

Academic Excellence With a Broader Purpose

A Healthier Approach to Achievement

Teachers focus on critical thinking and meaningful learning rather than simply teaching to the test, which helps students grow academically while still enjoying school and life beyond it.

Along with challenging core subjects, students can pursue electives such as:

  • Worship and performing arts
  • Visual arts
  • Spanish
  • Boss Club Entrepreneurship
  • STEM-focused Innovate and Create Institute courses, including 3D Printing, Aeronautics & Flight, and Hydroponics

After school, boys’ and girls’ teams compete in athletics, including cross-country, volleyball, soccer, basketball, and flag football, as part of the Bay Area Christian Schools Athletic League.

Project-Based and Real-World Learning

Students learn to analyze ideas and communicate clearly through:

  • Project-based learning
  • Speech meets
  • Offsite learning opportunities
  • Classroom discussions
  • Real-world problem-solving

Recent speech topics even explored the opportunities and ethical concerns surrounding artificial intelligence.

Biblical Truth Integrated Into Everyday Learning

Middle school students at VCA wrestle with real questions, discuss current issues through a biblical lens, and learn how faith shapes the way they think and live. Students take a Bible class, attend chapel, and participate in service opportunities that connect scripture to their lives and relationships.

Leadership Opportunites for Every Student

Middle school students are encouraged to lead early and often. Besides arts and athletics, opportunities include:

  • Leadership class
  • Morning announcements
  • Student ambassadors
  • Boss Club Entrepreneurship
  • Mentoring younger students during events like Lion for a Day

A Diverse and Welcoming Community

VCA reflects the diversity of Silicon Valley: our families speaking more than 20 languages at home; however, our school community is committed to unity in Christ, which brings us together. Families often appreciate that students build friendships across cultures and backgrounds in an environment shaped by unity, kindness, and a Christ-centered worldview.

Intentional Technology Use

Students learn digital literacy, ethical decision-making, and responsible technology use, while teachers intentionally preserve opportunities for discussion, collaboration, handwritten work, and deeper thinking. The goal is to help students become thoughtful creators and communicators — not passive consumers of technology.

Numbers that Matter

Each year, VCA students perform well above national private school averages on the Northwest Evaluation Association MAP Test. In fact, middle school students achieve class averages that are:

12
Points higher in math
7
Points higher in English Language Arts

Preparing Students for High School and Beyond

In middle school, VCA students begin taking greater responsibility for their learning while still receiving the guidance and support they need. Students develop important habits and life skills through:

  • Participating in all-school performances, where they practice time management, public speaking, stage presence, and self-discipline
  • Completing handwritten drafts in English before moving to final digital submissions, encouraging deeper thinking and originality in the age of AI
  • Engaging in sports and service projects, where they learn teamwork and flexibility
  • Communicating directly with teachers and advocating for themselves
  • Monitoring grades, managing assignments, and tracking their own progress

As students begin thinking about high school, VCA helps families by organizing campus visits from admissions representatives and providing advice for navigating the application journey. Graduates regularly continue on to many of the area’s most respected high schools and are equipped academically, socially, and spiritually for what comes next.

INTERESTING FACTS

I have been married for over 28 years. It’s gone by fast! We are blessed with two children who enrich our lives and make us laugh. I’m proud to say they are both graduates of VCA! Our doggo, Buddy, still dominates our conversations at home and takes up a huge chunk of our hearts.

Meet Our Teachers

A Safe Environment for Learning and Growth

The campus is designed with multiple layers of security, including locked entrances, keycard access, visitor background checks through SchoolPass, security cameras throughout the campus, and a full-time armed security guard who monitors the school throughout the day.

Just as importantly, students learn in an environment where healthy relationships are actively cultivated. At VCA, we don’t try to solve every problem; rather, we equip students with the communication skills to solve problems in a socially appropriate manner. When necessary, teachers address issues quickly, partner closely with parents, and view mistakes as opportunities for growth and character development.
